Don’t you wish you were a kid again?

Okay, I’m just going to come clean right at the beginning.  This post is an advertisement for Camp Galileo.  Many of you know my husband is an area director for Galileo Learning - and in that position he manages several summer camp sites.  He gets to wear shorts, t-shirts, and flip flops to work every day and they even treat him to massages and yummy Thai food periodically.  But that’s not why I’m shamelessly promoting Camp Galileo.  It’s an amazing company - not because it’s brought so much life and joy to Chris, but because their vision and objective is so sincere.  They want to make learning fun.  Hands on.  Meaningful.  And relevant to 2009.

Before I became a photographer (and a mom, for that matter) I was a teacher.  And during my training I became very passionate about hands on, meaningful learning that promotes social collaboration and sense making.  In other words, I hate worksheets, busy work, and rote memorization.  Camp Galileo and I get a long great, because they feel the same way.

If you are looking for a place to send your kids this summer, there is still room at many of the sites.  Visit http://www.galileo-learning.com/ to see the sites and learn more…but scroll down here to see the kids in action!

Last week I went with the marketing director to 2 different sites & programs to take marketing pictures.  I think I took close to 1,500 images of kids engage in thoughtful and relevant learning - and having fun! I choose just a few to post here.  They all make me wish I was a kid again!

Play Date at the Park

This summer has been FUN.  For lots of reasons.

One big reason is because I have the pleasure of meeting with a group of women & their children every Tuesday Morning to talk camera talk!  Last week we met at my house for a crash course in exposure and camera settings.  This week, we ventured to the park!  Here are some of the images I brought home.  Can’t wait to see all of yours, play date friends!  (FYI -  Lucy was there too.  My friend Shannon took a lot of pictures of her :-). Can’t wait to see them Shannon!)

July 2, 2009 - 11:14 am Grace Olsson - Sara, your photos are wonderful. Congrats

June 26, 2009 - 4:12 pm Jennifer - Pick me!!! Sara, is this a group where you can bring your children? If so, I would love to join (Ashtyn doesn't have school on Tuesday). Let me know... And, I know I NEED to call you!!!! I'm a BAD GIRL!!! Jennifer :) - Tell Chris Hi!

June 25, 2009 - 10:11 am Shaunie Friday - Just looked back through a bunch of your posts here Sara--your pictures are just breathtaking! I learn from each one! You are such a master at capturing not just a moment in time, but the essence of the person you are photographing. That is truly special--you don't just take pictures, you take hearts.

June 23, 2009 - 11:01 pm Rebecca - I have such a bad case of camera envy these days. Ah, to take photos like this!!! Lovely, dear!!

June 23, 2009 - 5:54 pm Shaunie Friday - Amazing pictures as always Sara! I love all the frames within the frame--one of my favorite techniques!

June 23, 2009 - 5:15 pm Sara - I want to live close to you!!!!!

June 23, 2009 - 3:22 pm Catie Ronquillo - How fun! Luke's so cute climbing up the jungle gym :)

I think Luke might want to marry Briana

…not because of her piercing eyes:

…or her great smile:

…or for her relaxed confidence:

…it’s not because she knows who she is and doesn’t apologize for it…

I think Luke is in love with Briana because of her truck:

brianna-finals-5

Yes, Briana loves her truck.  And trust me, it fits her perfectly.  You can tell it is a part of who she is.  In the words of Phineas and Ferb…She’s a tire-spinning, gear-griding, Clutch-burning, back-firing, Paint-trading, Red Lining, Over-heating, throttle-stomping, Truck drivin’ girl!

Briana originally had wanted to go to San Francisco (Baker Beach) for her senior pictures.  And who could blame her, really?  But our weather has been so cold and unpredictable, we decided to stay close to home.  And you’ll never guess where we took these pictures!  At the Pleasant Hill Library, right by Prospect High!  Who would have guessed?  But when you are as beautiful as Briana, I don’t think it matters where you have your picture taken, they are going to be stunning no matter what!

Thanks, Briana!  For a great evening.  I hope you enjoy your pictures!!!
