Poor Lucy…

…well, we had our first medical crisis with Lucy yesterday!  I thought I’d share a bit of our family drama.  Fear not – she is now fine, but it was quite dramatic.

Sara was home with the kids, and for the first day, our beautify niece, Abey, was here.  Well, all was well…Abey was napping, and Sara took the kids outside to swing.  Lucy has been fine on the “big girl swing”- knows to hold on tight and all that good stuff, but apparently that reminder didn’t help because she tipped off at the highest point and hit her head on a rogue piece of concrete.  Blood, screaming…oh yeah, you get the picture.  Given how high she fell from and how much she seemed to be hurt, Sara called 911 and the cavalry arrived.  They took great care of her and noted that she would definitely need stitches and they wanted to take her in right away for observation.  Our blessed neighbor, Karen, came over to cover Luke and Abey until Sara’s mom, Charan, could get here.  In the meantime, Lucy’s carseat was strapped to the gurney and off Sara and Lucy went in the ambulance to John Muir Medical Center.

Did I mention that I was unreachable during this time?  My cell wasn’t receiving calls…so much for technology!

Well, praise God that she was fine.  Some surgical glue in a few spots, some other checks, and she was ok to go.

Oh man…I can’t tell you how scary it was to get that phone call.  I drove (safely) very fast to the hospital after leaving work in a rush.  When I saw Lucy and Sara in the hallway by the ER I scooped her up and both Sara and I teared up.  There is nothing that cuts to the core of you than your kids being in danger.  Perhaps we’re a bit more sappy than some, but what a scare!

Well, after everyone calmed down, we made some macaroni & cheese and just laid low. I didn’t want to post too gory a pic, but you can kind of get the sense of where her injuries are from this picture if you look for the pink in her part.  She was much more interested in the macaroni over my camera.

Luke was happy to just be eating:

Both Lucy and Luke LOVE (I mean, LOVE) Abey.  They couldn’t stop adoring her all day.  Lucy really wanted to hold Abey and it was good therapy:

And, after all the day’s excitement, Lucy curled up on the couch with Candy Sue to watch some Clifford…and within 15 minutes (around 7:15) she was alseep.

Oh man – what a scare she gave us! Praise the Lord that there was nothing more major!

PS…. Since I’m writing this on Wednesday at 11:30pm, I couldn’t leave this post without saying how upset I am about Carly being voted off Idol!  I’m going to mope for a few minutes and get over it.  I’m sure she’ll make records and be famous still, but how disappointing!  You’ve gotta vote, people! :-)
