Somewhere Out There was Jesse

It’s written all over her face – Darian is absolutely smitten with her son, Jesse.  She speaks to him in a gentle voice, she calls him her “sugar” or “treasure”, and for 2 hours celebrated with me everything that is “Jesse”.  It is no surprise, then, that her confident, loving, sweet 10 year old boy was nothing less than happy and content during the entire photo shoot.  I love it when boys love their mama’s and Jesse sure does love his. 

Being with Darian and Jesse was a breath of fresh air.  I have a mental list of reasons why I enjoyed them so much, but mostly, I think, I enjoyed them because Darian is so authentic.  I was taken by her confidence in being Jessie’s mom, and how she trusts her heart to make decisions for him.  I love that Darian knows her own strengths and uses them in her parenting.  In a world that continually tells moms’ they aren’t’ good enough and should be more like _________________, Darian stands tall and strong.  And it is most certainly to the benefit of Jesse.  Darian is an authentic and caring mother who is completely in love with her son – and her son is a reflection of that.    

Darian told me that she waited 10 years for Jesse.  She had a difficult time getting pregnant.  Eventually, motherhood came to her through adoption.  Jesse was 3 months and 4 days old when she first held him in her arms as his mother.  During those 10 years of waiting the popular song from the movie “American Tale” took on a special meaning to her.  Especially the phrase – someone’s thinking of you and loving you tonight.”
