Most of you know I have a love/hate relationship with my Eichler home. I LOVE it’s potential. I LOVE the design. I LOVE the unconventionality of it. I LOVE the functionality of it. I LOVE the floor plan, the interior atrium, and I LOVE the modern feel. I HATE what the previous owners did to it. They used T-Shirt paint and painted red roses on the windows. They carpet glued indoor outdoor carpet in the atrium. We have tiles of swans in our bathroom and victorian looking wall paper in the office. We had (notice I used the past tense, Thank you God and papa Rick) 12 inches of lava rock decorating our back yard. And scattered among the rocks was a tire, a bird bath with white squirrels running up and down it, a planter shaped like the holy mother Mary, and a deck in the middle of the yard (really, in the middle, like a stage) with rod iron bars on either side. They painted the fences battle ship grey (am I going on too long here…) and paneled the outside of the house with vinyl siding. AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH In terms of emanating true Eichler style, our house is one hot mess.
And all I want is for my house to look and feel the way it looks and feels in my head.
Someday, Chris tells me, someday it will. And I believe him.
Yesterday, it got a little bit closer to meeting my internal vision. You see, about 2 years ago (yes, that long ago) I purchased 6 blank canvas squares at Beverly’s craft store and 4 different, complimentary paint colors. I sat Lucy down with a brush and some paint and let her go to town.
For 2 years now (don’t laugh) I’ve been wanting to hang them in my bedroom. Well I don’t know what happened to me yesterday, but something got to me and, darn it all, I decided it was time to hang them up. So now our modern home is just a little bit more modern. Check out the pictures:

Isn’t that great! Doesn’t Lucy have a great artistic style? I love walking into my room and seeing her art showcased on the wall. It makes me smile.
Now…what to do about the t-shirt painted roses on the bathroom skylight…
