One more Post – and It’s an Important One!

Somedays I look at Lucy and I think about what the world will be like when she is all grown up and a woman herself.  I wonder what opportunties she will have and what choices she will make.  I wonder if she will go to grad school or earn her Ph.D.  I wonder if she will stay home with her children or even if she will have children.  I wonder if she will want to be a Dr. or a nurse, or a race car driver.  I wonder if she will like to play the panio or maybe a different instrument.  I wonder what in the world she is going to do with all of that talent, all of that brain of hers, and all of that beauty.

While I hope that all of what she does is centered around a deep and compelling faith in God, I also deeply hope that it will be in a world that is no longer terrified of breast cancer.

I am terrified of it, and most women I know are terrified as well.  We have reason to be.  We all know many, many women who have been impacted by breast cancer.  My maternal grandmother had breast cancer, my mothers sister had breast cancer, and my fathers cousin had breast cancer.  My 30 year old neighbor is battling breast cancer.  Countless women from the church were I was raised have battled or died from breast cancer.  And many of you know that last December Chris’ Aunt Diane died too young from this horrible disease.

There really isn’t anything good to say about it – except for maybe the scientific advancement that is occuring in the field.  And the fact that one of my dear friends, Darien, is participating in Avon’s 3 Day walk for Breast Cancer.

She sent me an e-mail about her participation and that she is raising funds to support the research and development that is helping women fight this horrible disease.

I want nothing more than to support her fully in her efforts.  That is why if you book a session in the month of June, I will contribute 15% of my profit to Avon’s 3 Day Breast Cancer Walk. If you’ve been thinking about having pictures taken – or – supporting breast cancer research and development – book a session!  You’ll walk away with great pictures and a significant contribution to breast cancer research.   Just by booking a session I will contribute $20 dollars.  Then, ordering prints or  CD will only raise the total amount.

Only a few days after Chris’ aunt died her best friend Polly received in the mail a shirt she had purchased for Diane.  It read “Cancer, you picked the wrong broad!”  She showed it to us and said, “I think I’ll keep it.  I’m sure I will know someone who will need to wear it.”  Wouldn’t it be great if she was wrong?

They, meaning the researchers, keep on saying we are close.  Could you image, Lucy and her generation never being terrified of breast cancer?  (Well, in this picture she doesn’t really look terrified of much, does she?)

Book a session!  Do it for yourself and all of the women you love.
